Tips for improving the pace of the game Cinch and your skill.

One of the popular aspects of Cinch is the rhythm and tempo.

Every player shares a responsibility to keep the game flowing smoothly.

Here are some tips to maintain the pace of the game.

  • For every hand in the game, as soon as the first card of a trick has been played by another player determine if you have a choice or not. For example if trump suit is led and you have only one card in the trump suit play it promptly, even if you like or do not like the choice. Curse or gloat if you must but play it!

  • Pay attention to every hand, especially to whose card is taking the trick. It might be your card, or your partnerís card, or the oppositionís card.

  • If your card takes a trick, even with what you consider a rather useless card, or perhaps because no one else followed your suit, you have to lead to start the next trick, so be prepared to play promptly, instead of dozing off and needing to be reminded the lead is yours.

  • If you are unsure if that another player (your partner or the opposition) who took the last trick is dozing off donít wait long to remind them its their lead.

  • Paying attention to whose card is taking the trick when you are the last player in the round will help you decide if you have a good opportunity to slough a 10 for game points to your partner.

  • Paying attention to whose card is taking the trick when you are the last player in the round will benefit your team especially if you have the opportunity to take the Jack of trump home, or perhaps you can trump in with even a low card that can take some valuable game points for your team. Perhaps your partner sloughed a ten hoping you can take it so be alert for the chance to be a hero! There are only 4 cards in a trick so its not a big challenge for your memory.

  • If you are the card sweeper for your team be alert when the trick is over and sweep them in.

  • If you are the card sweeper for your team and you are the last player for a trick be courteous and let the other players actually see your card that you just played, before you sweep the cards. It wastes time if you get asked to see what you played because your hand covered the your card. Ideally playing your card and sweeping the cards are two separate motions, not one combined motion.

  • If you are the team score keeper be prepared to wake up your partner by pushing the cards towards them.

  • Pay attention to who follows suit whenever a trump card has been led, so then you will know who has no trump. That will help you decide if its safe or wise to play your card. Knowing who may or may not still have trump will give you confidence when its safe to play your Jack of trump instead of that being a foolish play that often leads to disaster. You giving the opposition the evil eye as you worry if you are going to lose the Jack when the opposition had no trump to begin with is just a big waste of time.

  • If you think you may need advice from someone not in your game donít waste minutes just to decide you need advice.
